Picking books for a 14-year-old usually means choosing on reading level alone — and that's where it goes wrong. A 14-year-old who reads two grades ahead isn't necessarily ready for two-grade-ahead content, and a 14-year-old who reads a grade behind isn't doomed to baby books.
