The mixed-level classroom problem
In any class, reading levels span years — and a book at the right reading level can still be wrong for a child's content readiness. That's the "gifted kid paradox": strong readers handed books with themes they're not ready for. HootRated rates both, so you can match books to readers on two axes, not one — and manage it for a whole class without a spreadsheet.
How it works
Create your classroom
Sign up, choose "Teacher," and create a class. Share a class code or QR — students (or parents) join with a tap. No student emails needed.
Give students a safe sign-in
Print login cards (a username + PIN, plus a QR to scan). Students sign into an ad-free, kid-safe zone — no shopping links, no advertising.
Build & assign reading lists
Make required and optional reading lists and assign them to the class. Each book appears on each student's to-do list automatically.
Students read & track their progress
Kids mark books want / reading / finished, rate them, and discover more books at their level — all inside the kid-safe zone.
See your whole class at a glance
Your roster shows each student's reading level, what they're reading now, and trends — plus a place to answer the book questions students send you.

- ✓ No advertising and no commercial content in the student or classroom experience.
- ✓ Student logins collect no email — just a first name and a class login.
- ✓ Content-intensity ratings on every book, so nothing surfaces above a student's readiness.

Is it safe and appropriate for kids? ▾
